Rodez and the Soulages Museum
Dominated by the red sandstone silhouette of its Notre-Dame Cathedral, Rodez has an endearing personality. Since 2014, the Soulages Museum, designed by the Catalan architects RCR, has given it fresh cultural standing. The monochrome yet vibrant works of the master of outrenoir are to be looked at slowly. A coffee on a terrace on Place du Bourg nicely extends the visit.
Roquefort and the Laguiole plateau
To the south, the cellars of Roquefort-sur-Soulzon age the famous blue cheese in the dark. To the north, on the Aubrac, Laguiole is known for its knives and local cattle breed. There people enjoy aligot, a generous blend of potato, fresh tome and garlic. Sharing this stretchy mash out of the pot remains an authentic Aveyron experience.
Markets and specialities
The markets of Villefranche-de-Rouergue, Espalion and Saint-Affrique delight food lovers: farçous, tripous, pognes, heather honey. In this department, every village has its own recipe. On Lyad, Aveyron members share their favourite inns and producers; it is up to you to find someone to sit down to table with.
